Promotion is where the rubber meets the road. Without it, someone ends up with a garage (or a warehouse) full of
unsold books.
I remember when I published my first novel more than five years ago now. No idea where to start, I honestly
thought that if I could just get the book printed, I'd have it made. How wrong I was. Since then I've run across
many authors with the same fantasy. As many authors discover to their sorrow, printing the book is only the
opening battle of a long war to get your book the attention it deserves. How do we fight it?
On many fronts simultaneously and by the following means. At Elderberry, for every book we publish we:
1. Provide advance notation in Ingram's database, accessable to every bookseller and library in the US.
2. Insure an internet presence at many bookstores, i.e., Walmart, B&N, Borders, amazon, Books-a-Million, etc.
3. Include your book in our color catalog and send you 100 to use any way you think best.
4. Mail color catalogs to 4,300 university libraries.
5. Mail color catalogs to 3,900 public libraries.
6. Send to the National Public Library Book Fair.
7. Send to the National American Library Association Fair.
8. Design press releases upon request.
9. Send out galleys to book reviewers, both local and national.
10.Advertise in The Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Times, Human Events, National Review and Book.
11.Build a webpage on amazon.com, including author interview, cover, reviews, synopsis etc.
12.Advise author on how to set up signings in their home area.
13.Make books available for signings, accepting orders from local stores on a returnable basis.
14.List on elderberrypress.com and sending updates on promotion to authors as they arise.
15.Link to authors' websites.
16.Inform radio and TV producers of book through email and listing in RTIR (Radio/TV Interview Report)
17.Secure a Library of Congress Catalog number, Books In Print listing, and copyright © for every book.
18. Send you 100 printed postcards to use in your campaign to inform friends and associates of your book's publication.
Promotion.
It's essential.
Authors who are willing to roll up their sleeves and help sell more books. Are you willing?
